Thomas Kinkade produced paintings and images like a corporation. His method was like Bill Gates about personal computers: "Kinkade into every home" and it is estimated, that about 5% of American homes owns at least one copy of his work, which are images of popular realistic, bucolic, and idyllic subjects. He protected a phrase "Thomas Kinkade, Painter of Light" throught a trademark, even if it was originally attributed to J.M.W. Turner. It is not his paintings, which puts him in contemporary arts antologies, but the concept, the methods of his appearance in the society.
To me it would be more adecvate to see Bill Gates in contemporary arts antologies, since his vision and products seriously changed the global society and the way we think and percept (even if not necessary in a better way).
